George Dockrell Cricket Career

Domestic Career

Here is all about George Dockrell’s Domestic Career.

Since he was 15 years old, Dockrell has drawn interest from Somerset County Cricket Club. On July 18, 2010, news broke that Somerset had extended a two-year deal to Dockrell. “My intentions are to maintain making progress with Ireland, but also to get into a county first team by refining all parts of my game,” Dockrell stated when asked about his objectives. In the latter part of the 2010 campaign, Dockrell’s availability for Somerset was constrained by his commitment to Ireland’s internationals in the Intercontinental Cup. Dockrell sustained a dislocated shoulder while competing. He had to miss much of his debut season with Somerset due to the recovery process. Although he appeared in several limited overs games, including the Champions Trophy and Twenty20 Cup semifinals, he only appeared in one County Championship game.

To take on England in Dubai in January 2012, a team comprised of some of the top players from Associate and Affiliate teams was put together. The three-day game served as a part of England’s training for a series they would play later that month against Pakistan. Four Irish players, including Dockrell, were selected for the 12-man team. Murali Kartik, a fellow left-arm spinner, left Somerset at the end of the season, giving Dockrell a chance to make a name for himself. Dockrell contributed to Somerset’s six-wicket victory in their inaugural County Championship match of 2012 by taking 6/27 against Middlesex in the second innings.

At the conclusion of the 2015 campaign, Somerset let go of Dockrell.

With 231 runs scored and 10 wickets taken during the 2018 Inter-Provincial Cup, Dockrell led all scorers and wicket-takers. At the annual Cricket Ireland Awards in November 2018, he was named the Men’s Inter-Provincial Player of the Year.

Dockrell earned his first century in List A cricket on May 4, 2021, against the Northern Knights while playing in the 2021 Inter-Provincial Cup, going 100 not out.

Ireland’s two most seasoned spinners, Kyle McCallan and Regan West, left the team at the beginning of 2010 due to retirement and injury, respectively. Young spinners Dockrell and Gary Kidd were selected for the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier and the 2010 Quadrangular Twenty20 Series in Sri Lanka. During the 2010 Quadrangular Twenty20 Series in Sri Lanka, Dockrell made his international debut for the senior Ireland side. Dockrell played in his first Twenty20 International game against Afghanistan. Dockrell recorded 2/11 in the contest, which Ireland won by 5 wickets. In his second Twenty20 game, Dockrell faced Sri Lanka A and took one wicket.

Dockrell was chosen for the Ireland team for the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 after making an impression in the qualifier. As the tournament’s youngest player, Dockrell played a prominent role, taking four wickets against the West Indies and troubling Kevin Pietersen in a tight bowling display in the abandoned match with England. Dockrell thought about that “I had a great lift in confidence after picking up three wickets against the West Indies. Prior to that game, I was quite anxious, but by the time we were about to play England, I was much calmer. Overall, I was very pleased with how the competition went for me “. He had to skip Ireland’s ODI match against Australia on June 17, 2010, since he had a Leaving Certificate Biology exam that day.

Dockrell was chosen in May 2011 for Ireland’s 15-man team for the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

He was included in the Irish team for the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier match in the United Arab Emirates in September 2019.

Dockrell was selected as a member of Ireland’s 21-man squad on July 10, 2020, and will go to England to begin private preparation for the ODI series against the England cricket team.

Dockrell was selected to lead the Ireland Wolves team in their red-ball matches against Bangladesh in February 2021. However, it was revealed that Dockrell had opted out of the tour the day before the team left for Bangladesh. On the same day, Harry Tector was named captain and Ruhan Pretorius was added to the team. Dockrell was selected for Ireland’s preliminary team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in September 2021.
