During the 2012 European Challenge Series, which lasted for a whole month, O’Dowd was a member of the Netherlands national under-19 cricket team. The game against Jersey was highlighted by his five-wicket haul (5/20) and two half-centuries, both of which he scored (against Jersey and Guernsey).

After returning to New Zealand for the 2012–13 season, O’Dowd participated in the National Under-19 Tournament as a member of the Auckland under-19 team and played in every match. In 2013, he participated in club cricket in England and made a solitary appearance for Nottinghamshire in the Second Eleven Championship during the same season.

In addition, he played club cricket in England in 2012. During the New Zealand season in 2014–2015, O’Dowd was a consistent player for Auckland A. On July 1, 2015, O’Dowd competed in his first Twenty20 International for the Netherlands, which took place against Nepal.
