International Career
Here is all about Sean Williams’s International Career.
When the players went on strike in April 2004, he was anticipated to be called up at that time. After playing just one first-class game, he was selected for the Zimbabwe team’s South Africa tour almost a year later.
This was confirmed when he declined a central contract the following month in favor of seeking out a more secure career abroad. However, he later changed his mind and returned to play for Zimbabwe three months later. Injury-plagued, the on-off saga reemerged in 2008 when he once more left for a contract in South Africa only to come back a few weeks later.
In the 2010–11 ICC Intercontinental Cup match against Ireland, he scored 178 runs for a Zimbabwe XI.
Due to a fractured thumb, he was disqualified from the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
He made his Test debut against the West Indies in the 2013 second Test at Roseau, scoring 31 and 6.
He withdrew from the first Test against Pakistan in September 2013 due to a payment dispute, but he was happy with the offer that was made to him and remained committed to the nation going forward.
He defeated the United Arab Emirates in the Cricket World Cup on February 19, 2015, scoring an unbeaten 76 runs. At 177/5 when he entered the crease, Zimbabwe was in a dire situation. But in the end, he scored 76 runs off 65 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six, to lead the team to victory.
In his third test, he recorded his first Test century. He batted at position eight in the second innings during a match against New Zealand in Bulawayo in July 2016, scoring 119 runs off 148 balls. The quickest Test Cricket century by a Zimbabwean ever was scored by him. Williams recorded the quickest century by a Zimbabwean batsman in an ODI match in April 2019 against the United Arab Emirates, scoring it off just 75 balls.
Williams’ first Test series as Zimbabwe’s captain was a two-match home series against Sri Lanka in January 2020. In the second Test, he scored his second century, scoring 107 runs before being dismissed by Dhananjaya De Silva. It was Zimbabwe’s first home tie since 2017. The series was won 1-0 by Sri Lanka.
